July 22, 2013
Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this evening. The Council began by expressing its appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for his order to provide SR 1.4 billion [$373.28 million] in assistance to families covered by the social security system to cover their needs during the holy month of Ramadan and the blessed Eid Al-Fitr.
Next, Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz delivered a briefing on the outcome of the 20th annual meeting of the Governors of Regions, during which security and development in the Kingdom’s various provinces were discussed.
Turning to foreign affairs, the Cabinet listened to a number of reports on the latest regional and international developments. It reviewed the Kingdom’s latest foreign consultations, while renewing its call to put an end to the genocide and human rights violations being carried out against the Syrian people.
The Cabinet also issued a condemnation against the bombing of a mosque in Bahrain targeting worshippers performing evening prayers, describing it as a sinful terrorist act aimed at destabilizing security, killing innocents, and terrorizing people during the holy month of Ramadan.
Conversely, the ministers welcomed the decision by the European Union to end its cooperation with Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, declaring that the decision embodies the EU’s consistent rejection of Israel’s settlement policies and its violations of international laws and conventions.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved a number of measures regarding the draft strategy to promote competition in the Kingdom; authorized the Minister of Interior to sign a draft cooperation agreement in the field of fighting crime with the Republic of Georgia; authorized the Minister of Civil Service to sign a draft Memorandum of Understanding in the field of civil service with Morocco; approved the bylaw of Social Care Homes, as annexed to the decision; and approved the organization of the Public Transport Authority.
