93 percent of terror suspects only have high school level education

July 16, 2009

Ninety-three percent of those who went through the extremist rehabilitation program have no solid background in Shariah and a majority of them were described as “uneducated” or only have a high school education, Saudi Gazette reported today.

Dr. Ahmed Jelan, director of the Care Rehabilitation Center, said that in his seven years working in the program, he has not met anyone who had studied under one of the leading Saudi Islamic scholars. He said most of the terror suspects “acquired their ideas from the internet and from other students." Dr. Jelan described the terror suspects as mostly young people "whose lives were about drugs and other sins, which some exploited in the belief that jihadist actions would redeem their sins and were necessary for repentance,” the daily quoted Dr. Jelan.
