Punishment for malicious lawsuit considered

June 13, 2014

Discretionary punishments, including fines and imprisonment, are being considered against plaintiffs who file malicious lawsuits, the Saudi Gazette reported on June 11. The Justice Ministry said the decision is aimed at cutting down the number of these lawsuits by plaintiffs for the sole purpose of avenging their adversaries. The new system is expected to curb the growing number of malicious lawsuits which have clogged court dockets for years.
