King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet’s weekly session in Riyadh today, during which he briefed the ministers on the results of the 11th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Consultative Summit, which was held in Riyadh May 5. King Abdullah noted that the GCC leaders expressed a desire to boost cooperation between their states, especially in the economic field.
The Cabinet stressed the importance of the 27th session of the Council for International Understanding, which was convened today at the King Abdullah Economic City. The ministers noted that issues of great global significance are being discussed, such as energy conservation and economic growth.
Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal reported on the emergency Arab League Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in Cairo last week to discuss the Palestinian crisis. He noted that the session issued a final statement reasserting the Arab commitment to achieving a lasting and comprehensive solution for the Palestinians, ending the Arab-Israeli conflict, and achieving fundamental regional security and stability.
After reviewing the results of the emergency meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Health Ministers, held in Riyadh last week, the Cabinet stressed the importance of coordinating and integrating efforts between Arab countries to confront a possible swine influenza epidemic.
The Cabinet authorized the discussion of draft cooperation agreements with Afghanistan and Argentina on the topic of extradition; authorized the signing of agreements with Ghana and Greece on avoiding double-taxation and tax evasion; and approved the charter of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) approved at the 11th Islamic Summit Conference in Dakar on March 14, 2008.
The Cabinet approved the appointment at the 14th rank, including the appointment of Abdulhadi Bakhraibah as Assistant Undersecretary of the General President for Sports Affairs at the General Presidency of Youth Welfare; Saad Alwtaid as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Finance; and Abdulaziz Almodaifir as Director General of Financial Audit at the Ministry of Finance.
