Crown Prince Salman chairs Cabinet session (4/29/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon. The ministers began by expressed appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for his continuing efforts to develop the various regions and sectors of the Kingdom. They commended the royal directive allocating more than SR 15.1 billion [$4.03 billion] for the establishment of twenty-two medical projects. Furthermore, the Cabinet welcomed the opening of the Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Riyadh by Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz; the laying of the foundation stone for the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah; and the inauguration of the new university city of the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Riyadh by Commander of the National Guard Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

Next, the Cabinet was briefed on the latest regional and international developments and reviewed the Kingdom’s stances on key issues. The ministers reiterated the Kingdom’s speech before a recent United Nations Security Council debate, which demanded protection for Palestinian prisoners and highlighted the human rights violations perpetrated by the Israeli authorities. They also stressed the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria, where more than 70,000 people have died and 3 million people have been displaced.

The Cabinet discussed the outcome of the Third Conference on Afghanistan, held in Kazakhstan last week, reiterating the Kingdom’s support for efforts to put an end to violence and terrorism in that country so that Afghans can enjoy peace and stability. Finally, it condemned the recent terrorist bombings that targeted the French Embassy in Libya, insisting that diplomatic missions are inviolable and should never be the target of violence.

Addressing the remaining items on its weekly agenda, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control within the organizational structure of the Ministry of Health; approved a general agreement on cooperation with the government of Djibouti; approved the appointment of Fahd Al-Misained to the Board of Directors of the General Establishment for Grain Silos and Flour Mills as a representative of the Ministry of Finance; approved the Saudi medals system, which introduces five new medals carrying the names of King Saud, King Faisal, King Khalid, King Fahd and King Abdullah; authorized the Governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) to sign a draft agreement with the government of Japan on the encouragement and mutual protection of investment; and approved a memorandum of understanding with the government of Malaysia for scientific and technological cooperation.

The Cabinet approved the appointments of Saleh Al-Amry as Mechanic Consultant Engineer at the Ministry of Defense (14th rank); Imad Ad-ham as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Fahd Al-Meheize’a as Director General of Education in Jeddah Province (14th rank); Aidhah Al-Khidaidi as Director General for Financial Control and Projects Follow-up at the Control and Investigation Commission (14th rank); and Maeedh Al-Zahrani as Director General of the Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah branch of the Control and Investigation Commission (14th rank).
