Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (4/22/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session this afternoon at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh. At the outset, the Cabinet expressed its appreciation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for his directive to address the growing demand for cement and his order to the Ministry of Housing to provide citizens with developed residential land and loans for building, within the framework of the King’s commitment to providing adequate housing.
The Cabinet discussed the latest regional and global developments, commending the efforts made at the recent Friends of Syria meeting in Istanbul and discussing the need to support the Syrian opposition. It condemned the two bombings that took place in Boston last week, calling on the international community to stand firm to stop all acts of terrorism. The Cabinet also condemned the latest bombings in Iraq that killed and injured dozens of innocent people.
The Cabinet welcomed the joint statement issued by the Finance Ministers and central bank governors of the Group of Twenty (G-20) countries, which confirmed the essential importance of ensuring financial stability in advanced economies. It also noted the Kingdom’s participation in the spring meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C.
Turning to local affairs, the Cabinet welcomed the opening of the 4th International Exhibition and Conference on Higher Education, which was organized under the theme “Social Responsibilities of Universities” and enjoyed the participation of 436 Arab and international universities and institutions, as well as 51 Saudi universities and institutions.
Addressing its weekly agenda, the Cabinet approved the transfer of the Saudi Aviation Club from the Ministry of Defense to the General Authority for Civil Aviation; authorized the Minister of Foreign Affairs to sign a draft agreement on general cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan; made appointments to the Board of Directors of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA); approved the appointment of Mohammed Al-Oqla, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs for Social Security, as a member of the Saudi Credit and Saving Bank, as a representative of the Ministry; approved the application of the decision of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states in its 32nd session regarding the System of Processed Sewage Water; and approved the International Convention on the Minimum Age for Admission to Employment.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Abdullah Al-Jarbou’ as Planning Advisor at the Ministry of Economy and Planning (15th rank); Dr. Mohammed Al-Muhanna as Legal Adviser at the General Presidency for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Commission (15th rank); Ayad Al-Shammari as Assistant Undersecretary of the Hail Governorate (14th rank); Ahmad Al-Mazrou’ as Secretary General of the Drug Control Committee at the Ministry of Interior (14th rank); and Abdulaziz Al-Huthaili as Assistant Undersecretary for Budget Affairs at the Ministry of Finance (14th rank).
