Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (4/15/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon. The Cabinet was briefed on the latest regional and international developments, including the continued bloodshed of the Syrian people and the widening of the circle of violence against Muslims in Myanmar. The Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s condemnation of these crimes and appealed to the international community to exert greater efforts to end these crises.
Discussing the proceedings of the Third Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague last week, the Cabinet stressed the importance of disarming weapons of mass destruction and preventing their proliferation. It called for a strengthening of international cooperation in this regard and advocated the creation of a WMD-free zone in the Middle East. The ministers also commended the First Saudi-French Business Opportunities Forum, organized in Paris recently.
Next, the Cabinet reviewed a number of cultural, scientific and health activities held in the Kingdom last week. It commended the sixth annual Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Award for Translation and the 15th Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Local Contest For the Holy Quran Memorization for Boys and Girls.
Turning to its weekly agenda, the Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral political consultations between the Saudi Foreign Ministry and the Swiss Foreign Ministry, signed in Riyadh on 3/20/12; approved a number of measures dealing with the spread of factories outside the scope of sites for industrial cities; approved a number of decisions regarding the reformation of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Industrial Development Fund; and approved the amendment of the second article of the System of Private Health Institutions.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Mohammed Al-Rashid as Dean of the King Fahd National Library (15th rank); Abdullah Al-Harthi as Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Abdulmohsen Al-Thabit as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Education (15th rank); and Saeed Al-Ghamdi as Consultant of Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Education (14th rank).
