Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (4/7/14)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon by thanking the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for his orders to establish three new universities in Hafr Al-Baten, Bishah and Jeddah. This move, he said, is more evidence of the monarch’s commitment to higher education and his inclusion of all regions in the nation’s progress.
After reviewing reports on regional and international developments, the Cabinet condemned the recent deadly terrorist bombings that took place near the University of Cairo. It reiterated the Kingdom’s firm denunciation of terrorism, no matter what the motivation or justification.
Next, the Council called for concerted efforts by the international community to prevent genocide and massacres, commending the holding of the International Conference on the Prevention of Genocide in Brussels. It appealed the nations of the world to take action to protect the Syrian people from crimes against humanity.
Turning to local affairs, the Cabinet welcomed the launch of work on the five sites of the King Abdulaziz public transportation project in Riyadh. It also commended the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance for organizing the Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Local Contest for Memorization of the Holy Quran.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet modified the name of the General Presidency of the Department of Scholarly Research and Ifta to the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta and modified the name of the Standing Committee for Research and Fatwa to the Standing Committee of Fatwa; approved a general agreement of cooperation between the Kingdom and Afghanistan, signed in Almaty on 16/06/1434 H.; authorized the Minister of Foreign Affairs to sign a general draft agreement of cooperation between the Kingdom and Mozambique; approved the addition of the Minister of Labor to the membership of the National Committee for Narcotic Control (NCNC); approved several appointments to the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the State of Funds of Minors; and approved the statute of the Statistical Center of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Ali Al-Khalifa as Civil Engineer Advisor at the Ministry of Defense (15th rank); Mohammed Al-Hudaithi as Administrative Advisor at the Ministry of Higher Education (15th rank); Abdullah Al-Manie as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the King Abdulaziz Military College of the Ministry of Defense (14th rank); Abdulaziz Al-Bassam as Mayor of Onaizah at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (14th rank); Hatem Taha as Under-Secretary Mayor for Reconstruction and Projects at the Secretariat of Madinah Province (14th rank); Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ma’adi as Director General of the Office of the Minister at the Ministry of Higher Education (14th rank); Ali Al-Hanaki as Director General of the National Center for Social Studies and Research at the Ministry of Social Affairs (14th rank); and Nasser Al-Khara’an as Director General of the Office of the Minister of State at the Secretariat General of the Council of Ministers (14th rank).
