Crown Prince Salman chairs Cabinet session (2/11/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session this afternoon at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh. The Cabinet began by reviewing a number of reports on regional and international developments, hailing the speech of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, delivered by Crown Prince Salman, at the 12th Islamic Summit in Cairo last week. It praised Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi for hosting the event and welcomed the summit’s final communiqué, which offered recommendations for joint Islamic action.
The Cabinet also discussed the Third Ministerial Meeting on Security Council Reform, which was held in Italy last week under the theme “New Approaches to Reforming the Security Council.” It stressed the importance of the six-point roadmap presented by the Kingdom’s representative to create a fairer, more transparent Security Council and United Nations.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral political consultations between the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the King Abdulaziz Public Library and the University of Beijing on the establishment of a branch of the library at the university; approved, in principle, the request by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) for the entry of the state, represented by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), as a partner in the project of heritage hotel development; approved a number of regulations involving the handling of cases of drug and alcohol trafficking; and approved an agreement between the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and the National Space Agency of Kazakhstan for cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Saad Al-Maimouni as Assistant Undersecretary at the Makkah Principality; Mohammed Al-Ammar as Planning Advisor at the Ministry of Economy and Planning; Abdulaziz bin Omar as Director General of the Branch of the General Presidency for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Commission; Abdullah Al-Jarba as Legal Adviser at the General Presidency for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Commission; and Sami Al-Turayif as Assistant Undersecretary of the President General at the General Presidency for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Commission. All of the appointments were made at the 14th rank.
