OIC foreign ministers condemn Israeli blockade of Gaza
February 4, 2008
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) yesterday condemned Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people, including assassinations, the destruction of homes and infrastructure, and the blockade of Gaza.
The ministers held an emergency meeting at OIC headquarters in Jeddah to discuss the crisis in Gaza.
In a statement, the OIC foreign ministers denounced the blockade of Gaza as collective punishment and a blatant violation of international law. They held Israel responsible for the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, a deterioration that is the result of Israel’s ongoing assault, the closure of border crossings and the disruption of the flow of fuel, food and medical supplies.
They expressed deep disappointment that the UN Security Council had failed to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and called on the international community to act swiftly and provide immediate protection for the Palestinian people.
The OIC foreign ministers also expressed their support for the Palestinian people.
