Rescue operations continue in Jeddah

Director General of Civil Defense Gen. Saad bin Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri says his organization is continuing its rescue operations, in cooperation with a number of governmental bodies, in Jeddah Province, where heavy rainfall has led to flooding. In a press statement, he reported that 1,451 people have been rescued by ground teams, 498 people have been rescued by air teams, more than 1,500 families have been granted shelter and a number of citizens and expatriates who were trapped or engulfed by water have been transported to safe havens. Al-Tuwaijri added that several blocked roads have been re-opened, power has been restored to 78,681 out of 83,042 subscribers and food is being distributed round the clock to the needy, particularly in the districts of Ummal Khair, Al-Tawfeeq and Al-Samer. The death toll from the flooding and rains has reached ten, while three people remain missing, he concluded.
