King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today. At the outset, the King briefed the Cabinet on his recent contacts with foreign officials, including his meetings with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir. The King briefed the Cabinet on the message he received from Yemeni President Ali Saleh, as well as his meetings with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Afghanistan’s Second Vice-President Abdul Khalili.

The Cabinet reviewed a number of reports on developments in the Arab, Islamic and international arenas, stressing the Kingdom’s position toward each one. The Cabinet also reviewed several economic, scientific and cultural activities and events held in the Kingdom over the past few days.

Turning to economics, the Cabinet discussed the newly issued state budget for fiscal year 2010, praising the new development programs and projects it included. The King urged the ministers to strictly implement all aspects of the budget.

After consulting its agenda, the Cabinet authorized the Interior Minister to discuss a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the exchange of financial intelligence on money laundering and terrorist financing with other nations; approved a draft model agreement of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, livestock and fisheries between Saudi Arabia and foreign governments; and approved a number of procedures regarding granting citizens residential lands in order to facilitate obtaining houses.

The Cabinet then approved the formation of the Board of Directors of the Makkah Development and Urban Regeneration Company for a period of three years, as follows:

5- Hassan Aqeel, Ministry of Commerce and Industry Ministry representative
6- Dr. Farouk Mufti, Makkah and Holy Sites Development Commission representative

Private sector representatives:
1- Dr. Majdi Hariri
2- Anas Sairafi
3- Mansour bin Saeed
4- Saleh bin Mahfouz
5- Mazen Batterjee

The Cabinet also approved the restructuring of the Board of Directors of Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company for a period of three years, as of 08/02/1431 A.H., as follows:

2- Abdulrahman Al-Dahmash, Municipal and Rural Affairs Ministry representative
3- Dr. Sami Barhameen, Makkah Governorate representative

5- Hassan Aqeel, Commerce and Industry Ministry representative
6- Dr. Riad Najem, Culture and Information Ministry representative

Private sector representatives:

5- Dr. Abdullah Talmasani

Finally, the Cabinet appointed Bakry Shatta and Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Zamil as members of the Board of Directors of the National Housing Authority for a period of three years; Mohammed bin Zaid as Adviser for Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior (14th rank); Abdulmohsen Al-Alsheikh as Assistant Undersecretary for Printing and Translation at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance (14th rank); Yahya Al-Zahrani as Assistant Undersecretary for Welfare Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs (14th rank); and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Aqeel as Assistant Undersecretary for Internal Information at the Ministry of Culture and Information (14th rank).
