Tourist Industry Enters New Era The formation of the Supreme Commission for Tourism (SCT) in April 2000 signaled the beginning of a new era in tourism in Saudi Arabia, one that will see expansion of tourist facilities and services, as well as greater efforts to preserve historic sites and traditional crafts. Seeing the Wonders of Saudi Arabia Having lived in the Kingdom for eight years in the 1980s, an American couple from suburban Washington, DC, joins a Smithsonian Study Tours Program to revisit some of Saudi Arabia's tourist attractions and see how they have changed.
