Fourteen Saudi detainees at the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, were returned to Saudi Arabia early today, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
Minister of Interior Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz welcomed the return of the detainees and said that efforts remain underway to bring all of the Saudi citizens currently being held at Guantanamo Bay back to the Kingdom. All of the detainees will be subject to Saudi law, he said. Prince Nayef also praised US authorities for their cooperation in the matter.
The Ministry also released the names of the 14 detainees. They are: Fahd Omar Abdulmajeed al-Omari al-Shareef; Yousef Mohammed Mubarak al-Jubeirr al-Shi’hri; Fahd Sultan Obeid al-Oseimi al-Oteibi; Turki Mash'ouri Zayed al-Jabali Aseeri; Sultan Ahmad bin al-Derdir Oweidah; Naif Abdullah Ibrahim al-Nikheilan; Abdullah Abdul-Mueen Mualla al-Wafi al-Harbi; Mohammed Ateeq Oweid al-Aufi al-Harbi; Saeed Ali Jaber al-Khuteim al-Shi’hri; Hani Saeed Mohammed al-Khalaf al-Ghamidi; Khalid Saud Abdulrahman al-Bawardi; Murtadha Ali Saeed Mukrem; Jaber Hassan Mohammed al-Jabrah al-Qahtani; and Zeid Mohammed Saad al-Hussein al-Ghamidi.
