The Arab Economic and Social Council held a ministerial meeting at Arab League headquarters in Cairo today. Minister of Finance Ibrahim Al-Assaf led the Saudi delegation.
The meeting focused on issues to be placed on the agenda for the upcoming Arab Summit, which is due to be held in Riyadh March 28. The ministers discussed the overall economic situation both in the region and globally, issues related to an Arab customs union, educational development and follow-ups on previous economic decisions.
The Council also covered obstacles to a greater Arab duty free zone, and called on Algeria, Mauritania, Djibouti and the Comoros to complete the process of joining the zone.
