The Ministry of Interior reported today that it has identified the 2005 killer of Corporal Mohammed Al-Zahrani as Muhammad bin Abdelraziq Saad Faidi Al-Ghamidi. Al-Ghamidi, who was arrested May 15, 2006 for the drive-by shooting at the US Consulate in Jeddah, was linked to the murder of Al-Zahrani through forensic evidence. Al-Ghamidi shot Corp. Al-Zahrani in Makkah on October 30, 2005 and fled to the Baha region where he hit the murder weapon. The weapon found on Al-Ghamidi following the shooting at the US Consulate had been used in an earlier attack on security forces in Taif.
According to Al-Ghamidi’s medical report, he previously sought help at psychiatric clinics.
