Embassy offers condolences on Virginia Tech massacre

Saudi Ambassador to the United States Adel Al-Jubeir has extended his deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of yesterday’s tragic shooting at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. 

According to university authorities, 33 people were killed and more than 20 wounded when a gunman opened fire at the Blacksburg, Virginia campus. It is the deadliest shooting in modern US history.

Cultural Attaché Dr. Mazyed Almazyed is traveling to Blacksburg to attend today’s convocation in memory of the victims and to express condolences to the Virginia Tech community.

No Saudi students were injured in the Virginia Tech shooting. Through the Cultural Mission, the Embassy directly contacted each student as well as the Saudi Student Club and the international students’ office at Virginia Tech to confirm that all of the Saudi students enrolled at the university were safe.
