The Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has expressed deep concern at the deteriorating situation in Palestine.
In a statement today, Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu urged the Palestinian leadership to resume dialogue, adhere to the agreements reached at Makkah and Cairo, and safeguard Palestinian national institutions.
Ihsanoglu strongly condemned the armed occupation of public offices to achieve short-term goals and create a fait-accompli on the ground. He also appealed to Palestinian leaders to preserve the unity of the Palestinian territories and not threaten the rights of the Palestinian people through internal strife.
In addition, the statement noted that the OIC’s committee on Palestine will convene at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah to discuss the recent developments in Palestine.
The Riyadh-based Muslim World League (MWL) issued a similar statement of concern at the situation in Palestine on Saturday.
