The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has sent a cable of congratulations to the new British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz also sent the new prime minister a similar congratulatory cable.

Brown replaces former Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has been named a special envoy to the Middle East by the Quartet (the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations).
