King Abdullah chairs weekly Cabinet meeting

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah today.


The King opened the meeting by briefing the Cabinet on his recent meetings and consultations with world leaders and their envoys. Then the Cabinet stressed Saudi Arabia's firm positions on regional security and
stability.

A number of decisions were also made. The Cabinet approved a $30 million contribution by the General Investments Fund to the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation's capital. It approved the reformation of the five-member Board of Directors of the Saudi Industrial Development Fund for three years, effective today.

The Cabinet also approved an agreement of cooperation between the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in the field of high energy physics. According to the agreement, physicists, engineers and specialists from Saudi universities and scientific institutes would participate in CERN's research projects in the field of experimental and theoretical physics. Moreover, CERN will consider applications from Saudi scientists for posts within its program for citizens from non-member states, and young Saudi scientists can apply to study at CERN's institutes.
