In May 2007, most of the 31,000 residents fled Nahr Al-Barid when fighting erupted between the Lebanese Army and the Fatah Al-Islam militant group at the camp. Many took refuge at the Beddawi refugee camp.
Saudi Arabia has also provided the refugees with financial assistance. In June 2007, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz donated $10 million to Palestinian families living in the Nahr Al-Barid and Beddawi camps.
