Saudi Arabia has voiced support for the principle of fair geographic representation at the United Nations Security Council, for both permanent and non-permanent members.

Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah made the remarks in a speech at the UN General Assembly yesterday.

Reform of the Security Council statutes should aim to enhance its capability and enable it to effectively shoulder its responsibilities in line with UN conventions, Prince Mishaal said. Discussion of the issue of fair representation reflects the changes and challenges of today’s world, he noted.

Prince Mishaal also reiterated Arab support for the Abdullah peace plan for peace in the Middle East.
