GCC Interior Ministers meeting concludes in Abu Dhabi

Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz attended the Gulf Cooperation Council Interior Ministers consultative meeting in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates today.

A joint communiqué was issued following the meeting. It praised Saudi Arabia’s efforts to combat terrorism, and reiterated the GCC’s rejection of all forms of terrorism.

The ministers expressed their concern over the situation in Iraq, and called on all parties involved to practice self-restraint. They denounced the kidnapping of a UAE diplomat in Iraq and urged his immediate release.

On the Palestinian situation, the communiqué called on all parties to unite for the sake of achieving an independent Palestinian state, and noted that the Palestinians should not be punished for their choice in the last elections.

The communiqué also praised Saudi Arabia and Oman for signing an agreement allowing citizens to move freely between the two countries with a national identity card.

While in Abu Dhabi, Prince Nayef also met with Qatari Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani in Abu Dhabi to discuss security matters of mutual concern.
