King Abdullah establishes family courts

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on Monday ordered the formation of family courts, the Saudi Gazette reported today. The courts will consider complaints of domestic abuse. More details about the courts will be forthcoming.

Last year, at least a third of some 5,000 cases brought before the National Society for Human Rights dealt with domestic violence. Many abused women and their children end up staying at official shelters for abused women charities.
