Saudi Ambassador discusses reforms, Saudi-US relations in Miami

Prince Turki addressing Florida International University

In remarks at Florida International University in Miami July 13, Saudi Ambassador to the US Prince Turki Al-Faisal discussed economic and political reforms in the Kingdom and the importance of the Saudi-US friendship.

Prince Turki noted that the Kingdom has undertaken economic reforms to make its economy more open and transparent and modernized its education system in order to equip young Saudis with the skills and knowledge to succeed in today’s global economy. And political reforms such as last year’s municipal elections are increasing citizens’ participation in the political process, the ambassador noted.

Turning to the Saudi-US relationship, Prince Turki highlighted historic cooperation between the two nations, and remarked that both must continue to work together to address global challenges including economic growth, energy security, the war on terrorism, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Addressing such challenges requires understanding between the two peoples and governments, Prince Turki said.

“With continued understanding, both Saudi Arabia and the United States can achieve new levels of peace and stability throughout the world.”
