The first International Conference on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) will take place in Riyadh from September 19-21, 2006.
Proposed under the Kyoto Protocol, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) aims to assist developing countries in achieving sustainable development. It is also designed to make it easier and cheaper for industrialized countries to meet their greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets as agreed in Kyoto.
The conference will address various aspects of CDM, including background, overview, perspectives and principles, legal, financial and methodological. It also aims to be a forum for an exchange of ideas on CDM projects.
The conference will include keynote speeches, presentations and panel discussions that will bring together speakers and invited participants from a wide range of disciplines, from policy makers to international financial and research institutions, the energy industry, country experts, as well as inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations.
