A statement issued after the conference expressed deep concern at the loss of human life and the destruction of Lebanon’s infrastructure, and called for urgent humanitarian assistance to the Lebanese people.
The statement also called for a cease-fire that will end the violence and the aggression. It underscored the importance of implementing UN Resolutions 1680, 1559, and 425 as well as the Taif accord, which stipulated a deployment of Lebanese armed forces throughout the country as well as the disarmament of the militias.
Also attending the conference were representatives of Lebanon, Italy, the US, the UN, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Jordan, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Britain, the EU and the World Bank.
