Saudi Arabia has donated $2 million to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to support relief efforts in Lebanon, the WFP announced in a statement yesterday.

“This generous Saudi donation will cover nearly a quarter of the food requirements for the emergency three-month operation; it will ensure that those Lebanese people affected by this crisis receive much-needed assistance,” said WFP Deputy Executive Director John Powell, as quoted in the statement.

The $2 million donation is part of the proceeds of the July 26 telethon to raise funds for Lebanon, which was broadcast live on Saudi TV. The fundraising campaign raised over $29 million.
