Thexton, a longtime friend of Saudi Arabia, visited the Kingdom for the first time in the 1950s while on active duty with the U.S. Army. During that time, he was welcomed by King Abdulaziz as well as his successors. He returned in 1978 to make a documentary on the Kingdom, and again in 1998.
In his home state of South Carolina and throughout the United States, Thexton – a retired police commander – has conducted outreach programs at schools, international festivals and civic clubs in order to acquaint Americans with Saudi culture and traditions.
