Part of the Saudi Embassy in Washington, the Cultural Mission administers educational and cultural programs for Saudi citizens studying in the United States. Founded by the Saudi government in 1951, the Cultural Mission also serves as the intermediary between US educational institutions and Saudi Arabia.
There are around 4,494 Saudis currently studying in the United States, 4,286 of them on scholarships. Those numbers are expected to increase – in June 2005, the Ministry of Higher Education announced 2,500 new scholarships for Saudis wishing to study in the United States. The new scholarships cover a wide variety of fields from bachelor’s through PhD degrees.
