The 26th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit today released the “Abu Dhabi Declaration,” which focused on the importance of educational development. In order to meet global challenges, educational systems must be upgraded to accommodate recent information technology advancements. It also stressed the importance of nationalizing human resources in the field of education in order to maintain traditions and culture.

The declaration called for a particular emphasis on education, training and planning for women, children, families and those with special needs.

The declaration stated that this emphasis on educational development coincides with the launch of a UN program of education for sustainable development.

Finally, the declaration noted that Islam highlights knowledge and social development based on mutual respect, moderation and a dialogue that is far from extremism.
