Finance Minister gives assurances of accession to WTO

Minister of Finance Dr Ibrahim Al-Assaf, who is accompanying Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on his current visit to the United States, spoke in an interview with Saudi Television and gave assurances that the United States is committed to working with Saudi Arabia to facilitate its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) before the end of this year. During talks with U.S. officials, he said, the main issues had been settled. Only technical aspects remain and these will be settled in the coming weeks, or days. He added that the two countries are in agreement on expanding and boosting bilateral trade and cultural cooperation. This includes U.S. commitment to facilitating the process of issuing entry visas not only to Saudi businessmen, but to students who wish to study and patients who seek treatment in the United States. He confirmed the decision to set up a high-level commission for the purpose of strengthening relations between the two countries.
