SAA to purchase 15 regional aircraft from Brazil

Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation, and Inspector-General Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAA), today oversaw the signing ceremony of a contract between SAA and the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer for the purchase of 15 short-range regional aircraft of the type known as ‘Embraer 170’. The contract was signed by SAA Director-General Dr Khalid bin Bakr and Embraer's Executive President Morecio Potello. Delivery will be two in December of this year, two more in January 2006, and then one each month for rest of that year. Dr bin Bakr pointed out that for the first time in its history, SAA will be paying for the aircraft purchase out of its own funds.
