Cabinet: Crown Prince’s tour abroad; Hail; Brazil; Middle East

Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz today chaired the regular weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, and briefed the Cabinet on his recent visits to the Republic of France and the United States of America, praising the depth of understanding shown by the leaders and officials of both countries, and the atmosphere of frankness, clarity and transparency that prevailed during the meetings and talks. The Crown Prince also briefed the Cabinet on his subsequent visits to Morocco, Egypt, Syria and Jordan during which he clarified the Kingdom's position on international developments, its defense of Arab and Islamic issues and its support for security, stability in the region in the interests of worldwide security, peace and understanding among peoples. The Crown Prince said they were appreciative of the efforts of Saudi Arabia to enhance stability in the region and to extend bridges of cooperation with various countries in this regard.

Commenting on today’s opening in Brazil of the Arab-South American Summit, the Cabinet noted the high priority the Kingdom accords its relations with the friendly countries in Latin America.

The Cabinet affirmed that the continued acts of killing and violence in Iraq are preventing the Iraqi people from achieving their aspirations of security and stability; condemned the recent explosion in Junieh, stressing that such acts are contrary to efforts pursued to support stability in Lebanon; and expressed concern about the security and stability of Egypt, and support for the Egyptian people in confronting acts of violence and terrorism.

Turning to its agenda, the Cabinet passed a number of resolutions, including endorsement of a memorandum of understanding with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the field of Islamic affairs aimed at the training of callers and preachers and the exchange of experiences in the management of mosques and endowments; authorization for the Minister of Culture and Information or his deputy to discuss a draft arrangement for news exchange between the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) and the Azerbaijani News Agency; and endorsement of the agreement on the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation and its protocol referring to fixed platforms along the continental shelf, with reservations regarding Article (11) and the first paragraph of Article (16). The Cabinet also ratified the framework agreement for economic cooperation between the Republic of India and member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that was endorsed in Kuwait at the 24th GCC Summit. The agreement aims at encouraging economic cooperation, expanding and liberating trade ties and concluding free trade zone agreements.
