Saudi doctor’s break-through in treating Leishmaniasis

Dr Mamdouh Ashi, a Saudi doctor who has PhD degree from Germany in Cosmetic Surgery and Treatment of Burns, has devised a new technique for treating Leishmaniasis, a skin infection that causes lesions, particularly around the nose. Dr Ashi has successfully treated about twenty cases through removal of scar tissue after isolating the affected area and stretching the skin. The disease, which is carried by parasites and is transferred to humans by the sand fly, has become prevalent in a number of areas in the southwest of the Kingdom.
