Established in 1983, KFCRIS has as its aim to preserve Islamic heritage, and organizes exhibits, lectures, and conferences. Its main library currently has 90,000 titles and 250,000 abstracts, and is a vital resource for scholars. There is also a children's library of some 18,000 books and magazines. The Center houses nearly 23,000 hand-written texts, some of them over 1,200 years old; KFCRIS has the mission of locating and indexing all known Islamic manuscripts.
