Ambassador to the United Kingdom Prince Turki Al-Faisal, who is also Chairman of Riyadh’s King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS), has just completed a visit to Italy to discuss preparations for an international conference to be organized by KFCRIS and Rome’s IPALMO, the institute for Italian relations with countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. The focus of the conference will be the history and future of Islam in Europe.
Established in 1983, KFCRIS has as its aim to preserve Islamic heritage, and organizes exhibits, lectures, and conferences. Its main library currently has 90,000 titles and 250,000 abstracts, and is a vital resource for scholars. There is also a children's library of some 18,000 books and magazines. The Center houses nearly 23,000 hand-written texts, some of them over 1,200 years old; KFCRIS has the mission of locating and indexing all known Islamic manuscripts.
