In an address to Saudi citizens today, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz expressed sorrow and grief over King Fahd’s death. King Fahd, he declared, “passed away, having dedicated his time to pious deeds as well as the service of his country and of Arab and Muslim causes”; and added: “In this sad moment we pray to God Almighty to reward him for the great services he extended to his country and to the Muslim community.”
King Abdullah went on to state: “Shouldering the duty following the death of King Fahd, I feel it as a heavy burden, and a great responsibility; I therefore pray God Almighty to grant me the ability to go ahead along the path taken by the Kingdom's founder King Abdulaziz Al-Saud and by his sons.
“I make you the promise that I will take the Holy Qur’an as a constitution and Islam as a way of life. I will dedicate my time to enhancing the pillars of justice and to serving all the citizens without any discrimination. I trust that you will assist me in shouldering this responsibility, and provide me with your advice.
“I pray to God Almighty to preserve the security of this country and to keep its people away from all evil.”
