Saudi Aramco to expand its drilling rig fleet by 100 percent over 2 years

Saudi Arabia's national oil company, Saudi Aramco, plans to expand its drilling rig fleet by 100 percent over two years, from 55 in 2004 to 110 in 2006. The increase is part of the company’s ambitious expansion of its crude oil and gas programs, which includes plans to drill several hundred wells over the next few years. According to Aramco, the increase is the most aggressive ramp-up of drilling activity in the history of the oil industry.

In related news, Aramco has begun supplying propane and butane to Japan's ambitious 1.5 million ton liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stockpiling project.
