Saudi Arabia elected to IMO Council

Saudi Arabia has been elected to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for 2006-2007. The election, which took place at the IMO’s 24th General Assembly in London today, is Saudi Arabia’s second since 1969.

The IMO is the United Nations agency concerned with the safety of shipping and cleaner oceans.  Saudi Arabia has been an effective member of IMO since 1969, and is also a member of its board of directors.
