Water treatment forum to target private sector contributions

Minister of Water and Electricity Dr. Ghazi Al-Qusaibi will inaugurate tomorrow a two-day forum dealing with the water treatment industry and opportunities for the private sector in the manufacture of the spare parts it requires. The forum, organized by the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), will also consider foreign investment, with a number of companies from Japan, South Korea and the United States planning to enter the Kingdom's water desalination industry, which is in need of a capital injection of $40 billion over the next 20 years. Since water treatment and desalination are capital-intensive, one of the options for consideration is the rehabilitation of waste water treatment plants to extend their life, and many of the Kingdom's old plants require renovation.
