Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz has sent a cable expressing condolences on the assassination by Israeli forces of Shaikh Ahmed Yassin and those with him, to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, to the Palestinian people, and to the families of the victims, especially to Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Yassin and his brothers, on the death of their father, and wishing Abdulghani bin Ahmed Yassin and Abdulhameed bin Ahmed Yassin a speedy recovery from their wounds. Similar cables were also sent by Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, and by Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz.

At its regular meeting today, the Consultative Council (Majlis Al-Shura), condemned the assassination, as did today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers. Meanwhile the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) today issued a statement denouncing the assassination; stating that a criminal act such as this will feed clashes in the region; affirming that the OIC stands by the Palestinian people and leadership; and urging the international community to intervene immediately in order to save the Middle East from even worse escalation of violence. The Muslim World League (MWL) has also denounced the assassination, expressing pain at the criminal killing of an elderly handicapped person, and urging the international community, especially human rights organizations, to intervene immediately to stop Israeli terrorism.
