Security officer killed in shootout in Riyadh

The Minister of Interior has announced that one security officer was killed and four slightly wounded in a shootout between a group of suspects and Saudi security forces in the Al-Fayha suburb in eastern Riyadh this evening. One suspect was killed. At 5:30 p.m. today a security patrol detected a suspicious vehicle containing two people, and followed it. Just prior to it stopping in front of a house in Al-Fayha, there was an exchange of fire between the patrol and the two suspects. At this point a group of people emerged from the house. They started firing at the security officers using various weapons including rocket propelled grenades. This resulted in the deaths of a suspect and a security officer, and injuries to others.


Ambassador to the United States Prince Bandar bin Sultan issued a press release praising the security forces.
