Interior Ministry issues new ID cards for citizens

Minister of Interior Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz has approved the issuance of a new personal identity card for citizens, to be called the National Identity Card, effective May 4, 2004. This move reflects advances witnessed in a number of countries worldwide, and makes attempts at forgery difficult. The new cards, which will gradually replace the existing cards, have the capability of including fingerprints and references to documents like driving licenses and passports. Expatriates will be provided with new residence permits, similar to the new national identity cards, effective May 17, 2004.
