Shootout in Riyadh leaves security officer and terrorist dead

The Ministry of Interior has reported that one security officer and a terrorist were killed in a shootout in Riyadh today. Six officers and three passers-by, two of them foreign residents, were injured in the incident. The report said that at 3:30 p.m., a group of people, some of them carrying weapons, were observed leaving a house in the King Fahd neighborhood of the city of Riyadh. Tracking them clandestinely, the security authorities took note of the vehicle they were using. When asked to stop, the suspects opened fire at the officers, who responded, killing one of them. It was later discovered that the house they came out of had been used for the manufacture of explosives. Investigations are under way, and further details will be issued as they become available.
