Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) will hold its Plast2004 seminar on September 28 on the topic: ‘The competitive capabilities of the plastic industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’. Over 300 owners of plastic factories, businessmen and other concerned parties are expected to attend. Also represented will be the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO). The seminar will cover issues such as product dumping, export of finished plastic products, and obstacles facing small factories. An exhibit on the fringes of the seminar will display SABIC products developed at its research laboratories.

Meanwhile, SABIC has announced expansion of the hot-rolling steel mill of its Saudi Iron and Steel Company ‘Hadeed’, which will double its flat steel production capacity to two million metric tons a year. Completion of the steel mill is scheduled for early in 2006, and will cement SABIC's position as the leading metals producer in the Middle East. Hadeed began production in 1983 with an initial annual production capacity of 800,000 metric tons.
