Crown Prince Abdullah urges conservation of water

Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, on the occasion of Saturday’s launch of a national campaign on awareness about rationalization of water use, stated today that conservation of water is the responsibility of all citizens and residents. He added that Saudi Arabia is one of the poorest countries in water resources, and depends on water desalination, which is expensive, and groundwater, which is not renewable; but that in spite of this scarcity and these high costs, the average individual daily consumption in the Kingdom is one of the highest in the world.

The Ministry of Water and Electricity is launching a national campaign of awareness of water conservation that aims to make citizens fully informed of the importance of consuming water carefully. Free conservation devices are being distributed to enable citizens to reduce their consumption, ideally to one third of the current average. All citizens and residents are urged to cooperate with the concerned bodies to install these devices.
