Cabinet: Hajj, earthquake and tsunami victims

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz today chaired the regular weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers, and expressed his condolences to the governments and people of Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bangladesh on the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami.  The Cabinet was briefed on preparations for the upcoming 1425 Hajj pilgrimage that have been made by various government bodies to implement the general plan to provide comfort, ease and safety for pilgrims as is customary every year. King Fahd, on behalf of the people and government of Saudi Arabia, has welcomed pilgrims who started arriving in the Kingdom to perform Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam.

The Cabinet then reviewed latest regional and international developments.  The Cabinet approved the draft agreement on cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Sweden signed in Riyadh on 17 January 2004. The Cabinet authorized the Minister of Interior or his deputy to negotiate and sign a draft agreement on cooperation with the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the area of civil defense; authorized the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance or his deputy was authorized discuss with his Guinean counterpart a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of Islamic affairs and endowments.
