Mayor of Riyadh City Dr Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Eyaf Al-Meqrin, who heads the Committee for Municipal Elections in Riyadh Province, announced at a press conference today that all the required arrangements have been completed for conducting the elections. Registration of voters will begin tomorrow, with the registration centers open from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Saturday through Wednesday, and from 10:00 am to 2:00 noon on Thursdays. These centers are open today and tomorrow between Maghreb (sunset) and Esha (night) prayers to address any queries from citizens.
According to the election regulations made public by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, every male citizen has the right to vote, provided that he is over 21 and not serving in the military. Any citizen who has residences in different areas of the Kingdom will have to choose one and register at a ballot center in that area. Any citizen who wishes to nominate himself as a candidate will have to register first as a Saudi national in a ballot center and then register his candidacy on the dates specified.
Voter registration in Riyadh will extend from November 22 to December 22 [Shawwal 10 to Dhu Al-Qada 10, 1425]. Publication of the voters’ list will be on December 25 [Dhu Al-Qada 13, 1425]. Registration of candidates will take place from December 26 to 30 [Dhu Al-Qada 14 to 18, 1425]. The preliminary list of candidates will be published on January 2, 2005 [Dhu Al-Qada 21, 1425] and the final list on January 29, 2005 [Dhu Al-Hijjah 18, 1425]. The candidates will conduct their campaigns from January 29 to February 9, 2005 [Dhu Al-Hijjah 18 to 29, 1425]. Voting will take place on February 10, 2005 [Muharram 1, 1426].
