Islamic Affairs Minister urges revision of Kingdom’s textbooks

[Washington, DC] -- The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance, Shaikh Saleh bin Abdulaziz Al-Ashaikh, has stressed the Kingdom’s need to revise sections of some university and school textbooks that “promote excessiveness”. Shaikh Saleh Al-Ashaikh has given the Council of Dawa (Call) and Guidance one month to formulate a program for combating excessiveness at mosques, dawa centers and Qur’anic schools. He urged council members to develop and set out clear plans to successfully confront extremism.

Shaikh Saleh Al-Ashaikh stated: “Authorities at universities, the Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques and other educational agencies need to revise some of the activities and syllabuses, because it has been observed that some textbooks of universities and schools under the Qur’an memorization societies and under the presidency contain material that promotes excessiveness.”
