Saudi Ambassador responds to terrorist attack
[Washington, DC] -- Ambassador to the United States Prince Bandar bin Sultan today issued the following statement:

“The heinous terrorist attack on a residential area in Riyadh was a cowardly act by a group of criminals and deviants whose only aim is to spread fear, violence and hatred.  Our deepest sympathies go to the victims and their families.  Our prayers are with the families of the victims as they grieve for the loss of their loved ones.  And we assure them that justice will be served.

“Saudi Arabia is at war with these terrorists.  We are driving them out of their hiding places, we are killing and capturing their leaders, and we are choking off their means of support.  As a result, their actions grow more desperate and more heinous.

“The target of this terrorist attack was a residential area where citizens of many nationalities lived together in peace.  Their common bond is a desire to have fulfilling careers and to raise their children in a secure and peaceful environment.  There was no justifiable reason to bring harm to these innocent people.

“The attacks and subsequent murder of innocents took place during the holy month of Ramadan, which is a month for contemplation and prayer, and for remembering those less fortunate.  This proves that the terrorists have no respect for the principles of Islam, humanity or decency.

“If the objective behind these criminal attacks is to destabilize the Saudi state, and cause panic among the people of Saudi Arabia, the terrorists have failed.  The Saudi people are united and galvanized in their determination to confront and destroy this evil and root it from their midst.  And with the help of God Almighty, we shall succeed.”
